Before we begin: Please note the Forums are the official repository of information for Dark Providence. Everything on the Forums trumps that on the Wiki.

How to get started

The first thing to do is create a user name on the main website: Dark Providence. This will be your OOC name, your Wiki login, and your forum login.
Note: Forum access requires activation - this keeps the number of bots down. Please log into the chat, and an Admin will get you access.

Please read the Terms of Service before stating you agree to it. The ToS can be found: HERE - and failure to read is not an excuse for not complying.

It is strongly suggested that you go to "Update profile" And make sure "Show Username" is selected - this allows people to know how to FPM you, as well as see who you play when you're logged in with your OOC login.

Also note: HERE - accounts are cleaned out once a month. This includes forum accounts - if you have not posted anywhere, your account will get purged at the end of the month. If this happens, just remake the account with the same name when you're ready to post.

Character Creation

Every Venue has creation rules in their Venue Information subforum. PLEASE read this information prior to creating a character - it offers expectations and limitations that may be in place for each respective area in addition to the Chat Wide Rules

All characters require a background posted on the forums. The history MUST be on the forums to be sanctioned, even if it's also on the sheet. The area on the character sheets are there for player convenience for those who wish to print out their sheets only.

To do this, you make a post in the relevant "XP, EQ and Scene Requests" sub-forum for the venue you wish to play in. The title for this post being your character's name - this should be the name that appears on the chat when you log in. Only you and the Admins/Staff can see this thread.

IMPORTANT!: This thread will be used for all XP requests, etc, for this character. You will only need one thread per character.
Character sheets are made using the Create Character function on the main page. This is located in the right hand tool bar.

Character Wikis

If you choose, once you're sanctioned you may make a wiki for your character. If you need help, please use the help link on the left tool bar, or click here.

How to play

If you're looking for scheduled scenes, check the front page of the site as well as the forums for your venue. If you can't find anything, ask! Remember you do not need a scheduled scene to play, feel free to grab others and go have fun.

Crossover

Crossover play- play between venues - is a tricky subject. However, the general rule of thumb is as follows:

“Hi, my name is Bob” is peachy vs. “ Hi, my name is Bob the Almighty and now I will use my ungodly powers on you!” is worthy of a Darwin Award.
  • The moment powers are used, the scene freezes and Storytellers from the relative Venues involved MUST be present.

As always feel free to ask if you're not sure.

Experience Points

Experience points, or XP, is gained at the rate of 1 a day, up to 6/week. This is given as you log in, and is not automatic. your XP is listed as Temporary during the week, and rolled over to Perm XP at 12:01AM PST, Monday.

Also as noted above, It is strongly suggested that you go to "Update profile" And make sure "Show Username" is selected - this allows people to know how to FPM you, as well as see who you play when you're logged in on the OOC. This helps find people in your venue to play with.

Where to find info

The forums, learn them, live them, love them. They have all sorts of info listed for various venues, and if you can't find what you need, an FPM to the ST in question is always a good idea.

Where to post?

The Sub-forum Guide, this explains where various things are posted, by descending order of appearance on the forum.

Want to make a suggestion?

They all can go here: The Suggestion Box. Threads made here are only viewable by the poster and Admins/Head Storytellers.

Want to make a complaint?

Complaints should first be taken to the Storytellers of the venue in question, but if you don't feel comfortable with that, for whatever reason. Then they will go here: The Complaint File. Threads made here are only viewable by the poster and Admins/Head Storytellers.

***IMPORTANT*** - If you are filing a complaint about a specific occurrence/person, try to have a screenshot, or room name/date/time with timezone included with the complaint. The Storyteller staff needs something to go off of before action can be taken. This isn't to say we don't trust you, it just keeps the drama llama out of the chat, where it belongs.

Still have questions?

Feel free to PM Storytellers, FPM Storytellers, ask in the OOC room.

As a friendly reminder: Keep in mind Staff are players too. Even if you know an Storyteller's PC names, do not PM asking for official business unless they are on their blues. They need and deserve downtime too. This includes a Storyteller who's on their OOC login.

Pie

What's with pie? People talk about it all the time in the OOC.
Pie is a subtle code that the current conversation is getting to an uncomfortable point, or beating a dead horse. Pie is your signal to start talking about something else before the STs have to explicitly ask.

Last notes

This is for all information you need to know that's not listed elsewhere in here.

- Everyone here is here to have fun. Everyone. Staff, players, admins. Everyone follows the same rules. No one - NO ONE - deserves to be harassed. If you find you're being harassed, please take a screenshot and make a post in the complaint file.

- Keep the OOC room PG. If someone asks you change the topic, please do so. Might we suggest the topic of Pie as an alternative?

- Scenes about rape are prohibited. Age of the players and consent does not matter, if it happens you will be banned immediately.

What else do I need to know?

Have Fun.

Remember to maintain maturity.

Be respectful - this is a place for fun, and we expect it to remain that way.

The Forums are your friend - read them, know them.

Ask. Feel free to ask away. It's what staff is here for.
